The European Innovation Partnership on Water (EIP Water) held its second annual conference last week in Barcelona. The subject of the event was “Connecting water innovation demand and supply”. During the conference, the speakers discussed the role of innovation in water sector, how corporate stewardship can drive innovation and how stimulate investment. The conference also marked the launch of 3rd call for expressions of commitment to establish EIP Water Action Groups and the CDP water program’s Global Water Report 2014 which analyses business understanding of water risk at the world's largest corporations.
The speakers have addressed the issues from different perspectives, according to their work field. The following speakers have contributed to the debate: Marianne Wenning (Director of Quality of Life, Water & Air at the European Commission) Joan Puigdollers (Councilor for the Environment and Urban Services of Barcelona), Carmen Vela (State Secretary for Innovation in Spain), Florian Witsenburg (CEO of Tygron), Harry van Dorenmalen (IBM Europe Chairman), Jan Busstra (Netherlands Water Director), Francisco Nunes-Correia (Portuguese Water Partnership), Tomas Michel (WssTP Chairman), Wim van Vieressen (KWR Watercycle Research Institute CEO), Monica Scatasta (Head of Division, Water and Waste Management at the European Investment Bank), Paul Simpson (CDP CEO), Gernot Klotz (Cefic Executive Director for Research and Innovation), etc.
Furthermore, ACQUEAU and several organizations have presented their activities and work in the exhibition area. We have the chance to meet ACQUEAU members and water stakeholders. As a result, the event has been highly interactive.
A series of open and closed back-to-back meetings were held before and after the Conference; they have been the added value of the event. ACQUEAU team has attended "Regional Clusters for water efficiency" workshop and the meeting on "Linking to Science and Technology within the European Regional process for World Water Forum in Korea".
